Red Mountain goodness awaits

Sip

Enjoy Kiona-grown fruit at these top-shelf neighboring wineries

We grow high-end Red Mountain wine grapes for more than 60 top wineries in the Pacific Northwest, including these great stops in our own neighborhood:

Barnard Griffin - Owner/Winemaker Rob Griffin vinified the very first Red Mountain wine ever in 1978 (using our Kiona Estate fruit, of course!) and today his multi-generational family winery promises quality, consistency, and character. A Washington state institution. (15 minutes from Red Mountain)

Bartholomew - Bart Fawbush packed up his SoDo/Seattle winery and moved his family to Eastern Washington to get in on the ground floor of the new Port of Kennewick Wine Village. He implores his visitors to "expand the palate" and his collection of eclectic varietal wines makes it easy; the lineup includes Carmenère, Tannat, and Albariño, among others. (20 minutes from Red Mountain)

Col Solare - When Italy's 26-generation Antinori wine family partnered with Washington's own Chateau St. Michelle to start a Red Mountain-focused halo brand, the world sat up and took notice. Now more than 20 years into the partnership, the entire Red Mountain community owes a debt of gratitude to Col Solare for helping our region achieve recognition and awareness as one of the world's top growing regions. (Tasting Room located on Red Mountain)

Fidelitas - Faithful to Bordeaux grape varieties, loyal to modern craft winemaking techniques, and true to Washington's Red Mounain terroir, this family-owned and operated winery (helmed by the celebrated Charlie Hoppes) is a must-stop on the hill. (Tasting Room located on Red Mountain)

Frichette - All-star wife and husband team Shae and Greg Frichette quit their high-powered corporate lives to move to Red Mountain and open their winery, and boy is it awesome. With a focus on Bordeaux varieties and frequent sit-down educational opportunites, Frichette is a must-visit for any boutique winery fan. (Tasting Room located on Red Mountain)

Powers - The words of the late/great Bill Powers ring as true today as they did in 1982 when he planted the Badger Mountain Vineyard in nearby Kennewick, Washington: "If you can do something good, you should do it." Today Powers Winery crafts wines with a deep emphasis on place, terroir, and geographical specificity. (20 minutes from Red Mountain)

Upchurch - Chris Upchurch hardly needs an introduction to followers of Washington wine. His eponymous family-owned-and-operated winery sits on the south side of 224 in the Red Mountain AVA and offers by-appointment tastings three days a week.

Honestly, even if they don't use Kiona-grown fruit, the tasting rooms on/around Red Mountain are stellar and deserve a visit. Here's a list of wineries within easy driving distance from our Red Mountain tasting room, provided by our friends at Visit Tri-Cities.

Stay

Because Red Mountain Deserves More Than One Day

The Lodge at Columbia Point - Locally owned luxury hotel with winery-themed rooms, weekly wine tastings, and a top-shelf sit-down restaurant, all on the shores of the mighty Columbia River. Book using the code CORK for a special rate. (20 minutes from Red Mountain)

Tinte RM Retreat - This VRBO is located inside the Red Mountain AVA and is a great option for groups. Offers great views of the Yakima Valley (to the west) and Red Mountain (to the north). It's a two-minute walk from the venerable Upchurch Winery.

Red Mountain Villa - Originally built over 100 years ago as the local railway station, this riverfront property oozes charm and character. You'll get some Instagram-worthy shots from this rental property, located less than 5 minutes from Sunset Road.

The Glass House - This place looks like it belongs in a Bond film. So fancy. Not located in the AVA but very easy driving distance, and great for a larger group.

Bringing an RV? We allow members of Harvest Hosts to stay overnight on our paved parking lot overlooking the Kiona Estate vineyard. Reservations through the Harvest Host system are required and must be approved before stay. This is very popular, please plan ahead!

Eat

You'll Definitely Work Up An Appetite

Anthony's - Founded in Bellevue Washington by Budd Gould in 1969, Anthony's is a Pacific Northwest institution. The menu features fresh local seafood that changes seasonally, along with an expansive wine list. Situated alongside the Columbia River and the Columbia Point Marina, the building itself features giant panoramic windows with which to drink in the view.

Dovetail Joint Restaurant - Owner/operators Maren and Matt McGowan converted a cosmetology school into a beautiful sit-down restaurant featuring a Mediterranean-inspired seasonal menu with locally sourced ingredients. A true Tri-Cities gem.

Drumheller's - Named after the Drumheller Channels (now a National Natural Landmark) that demarcate the greater Columbia Valley's flood-scoured scablands, this fantastic white-linen restaurant offers a seasonal/daily menu, comprehensive wine list, and views of the Columbia River.

Endive Eatery -Edward Shoemaker, graduate of the Seattle Culinary Academy, opened this deli less than 10 minutes from the tasting room. The food is a delight, they've got local craft beer and wine by the glass and bottle, espresso that RIPS, and several grab-and-go options if time is short or you've got a tasting appointment to keep.

Lu Lu Craft Bar - Lu Lu is the brainchild of Cindy Goulet, whose Basin City-based family farm supplies the beef, pork, onions, and potatoes for the restaurant. If a locally-raised burger served with scratch-made pickles and aioli is your speed, this is your place!

Proof Gastropub - After the success of Stick + Stone (below), Matt Miller wanted to open a Gastropub that featured quality cocktails and freshly made, rustic fare. Proof is a relative newcomer to the Tri-Cities food scene but is already considered a favorite. That scallion puree on the New York Strip is chef's kiss.

Stick + Stone Pizzeria - Matt Miller's pizzeria brought Neapolitan-style pies to the Tri-Cities, and we will never be the same. Their giant wood oven is fueled with cherry and applewood sourced from local orchards, and the menu features rotating beer taps and great Washington wine. The Honeybadger and Patata are face-meltingly good.

PS - We have an awesome covered deck. Guests are more than welcome to bring outside food and have a picnic!

Having Fun is Fundamental

Red Mountain Trails - Neighbors Teresa and Jeff Owen offer vineyard trail rides, horse-drawn wagon rides, bicycle tours, and more. There's hardly a better way to experience the beauty of the Red Mountain AVA than from the back of a trusty steed!

Coyote Canyon Mammoth Site -The Coyote Canyon Mammoth Site is an Ice Age paleontological excavation south of Kennewick. The dig is managed by MCBONES Research Center Foundation, an all-volunteer educational non-profit organization. Public tours are offered once a month April through October. Tour reservations are required.

The Reach Museum - A stunning riverside museum that covers our local history with the Manhattan Project, the Native People of the greater Columbia Basin, and more. Great for kids and adults alike.

Badger Mountain Trails - Rising to 1,579 feet at its highest point, nearby Badger Mountain has 5 unique trails, each offering a different challenge. These trails are well-maintained, have ample parking, and (often) bathroom facilities.

No trip to Red Mountain is complete without visiting the pioneers.
